What's the most-misread book in our tradition?

For State Capitalist, I'd argue it's the one everyone cites and almost no one finishes. The skim reading turns into orthodoxy and the actual nuance gets lost.

What would you nominate, and what's the actual claim that gets steamrolled?

Disagree on the framing. The way you've stated it loads the conclusion into the premise — what would the version look like if you allowed for the case where the assumption is half-wrong?
